Arapahoe Basin

Ski Area Expansion in Summit County.

By Jeff Angell

Arapahoe Basin recently increased the ski area's terrain by 80% with the opening of the 400 acre bowl named - Montezuma Bowl.

A Family Skiing together in Montezuma Bowl

The new Montezuma Bowl offers terrain for blue, black and double black diamond skiers and boarders in 36 runs. Cornices, chutes, wide-open bowls and steep chutes await those interested in sampling the nation's larges terrain expansion for the 2007-2008 ski season.

Arapahoe Basin will even groom several runs in the Montezuma Bowl for some additional cruiser runs. And for those wanting a back country feel the lower 'hike back' terrain just past the bottom lift terminal will be available too.

Minimal environmental impact was an important undertaking Arapahoe Basin implemented during the construction of the Montezuma Bowl. They worked closely with the White River National Forest and others to ensure minimal impact on the natural terrain. In fact, the terrain remains roadless and does not require a road to support the lift and amenities found in Montezuma Bowl.

The attention to the natural environment while constructing Montezuma Bowl shows in the pristine feel and natural look - if you have the time to experience the new expansion yet this year, you certainly will not be disappointed in the terrain as well as the tremendous views.
