Rec Path Open for Use in Summit County

By Jeff Angell

Summit County's bike paths are now plowed and open. Of course the rec path is not just for bikes - in fact it can be used by cyclists, walkers and other nonmotorized methods.

Rec Path along Lake Dillon

With all the recent snow and some logging work going on there are a few locations where the snow was not removed nor is the bike path open. The reason is for public safety due to logging machines and avalanche potential.  Those locations are Tenmile Canyon and a small section near the Dillon Dam road.

Be sure to use caution as there are still wet spots along with ice, sand and other things on the path. Exercise caution.

For those waiting for the pathway from Copper Mountain to the top of Vail Pass, including Tenmile Canyon, those location are most likely going to be cleared some time later in May. Also, some areas of the rec path will be maintained this summer and users are cautioned to be aware that worker and their equipement my be found on the rec path.

Remember that all dogs must be on a leash and the county (other user too) would really appreciate it if the dog owners picked up after their pets.
