From ranching to second homes in the Colorado Rocky Mountains... The town of Silverthorne resides on a late 1800's mining claim just a short few miles from Frisco CO and has historically been a ranching town; which was the case until the construction of the Lake Dillon reservoir as well as the growth of nearby towns along with their real estate such as Frisco homes and other Co real estate. A reservoir that changed the surrounding towns of Dillon, Frisco and Silverthorne, Colorado in to summer resort areas with terrific resort mountain real estate either located near the shores of Lake Dillon or with tremendous views of the lake like the unique Colorado real estate similar to Frisco property.
Just below the Eisenhower tunnel, west on I-70, Silverthorne is the Gateway to Summit County, CO and is the first exit one comes to, just before the Frisco CO exit, and all it has to offer. While Silverthorne is certainly a wonderful resort town located in Summit County, the county offers many other areas of interest, ski resorts, mountain real estate and activities. Silverthorne is often called the gateway to Summit County, CO as it is the first ski town in Summit County driving from Denver, Colorado along I-70. Once drivers pass through the Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70 the first thing they see is the Silverthorne valley and surrounding mountains of the Gore Range as well as Frisco, Lake Dillon and the beginning of the Ten Mile Range that begins where the Frisco real estate ends. As one gets closer to Silverthorne the next thing they notice is all the mountain real estate from Condominiums to Townhome to homes and, even, sprawling ranches - true Colorado Real Estate - all with tremendous Rocky Mountain Vistas!
The surrounding mountains consist mostly of the Gore Range, a Wildernest area, located high above the Town of Silverthorne to the west and Ptarmigan Mountain to the east and the Ten Mile Range that begins in Frisco and runs all the way to Breckenridge. Anglers enjoy the many large and energetic trout that hang out in the Blue River below the Dillon Dam. Fly fishing and lure fishing are a big attraction along with rafting, hiking, and shopping at Silverthorne's Factory Outlets feature many name-brand stores like Nike, Pole, Banana Republic, Levi's and Coach. Many enjoy shopping for real estate homes, condominiums and townhomes or even ranches!
The Town of Silverthorne is only a short drive along I-70 from Denver, CO and once in the town visitors and local residents alike are close to all that Summit County, Colorado has to offer; including Skiing at Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone and Arapahoe Basin - all within about 20 minutes! Many enjoy the Silverthorne area for its warmer temperatures, as compared to other parts of Summit County, and is one of the reasons many locals and second home owners choose Silverthorne to purchase real estate in this resort community.
Silverthorne was incorporated in the 1960's and has grown along with the rest of Summit County as the tourist industry has grown over the years. Their real estate has expanded right along with the towns growth with new subdivisions, a spectacular golf course, bike path additions, new stores, shops and restaurants. Silverthorne is also home to a newer 62,000 sq. ft. recreation center .
Just south of Silverthorne the valley along the Blue River opens up to spectacular mountain views and wonderful mountain real estate with homes on 10 to 20 and more acres. As you move further down the valley some of the ranches become very large working Colorado Mountain ranches and in this area you will find the town of Heeney which is nestled along the shores of Green Mountain Reservoir.
