Summit County is home to some of the best mountain towns to live and play in anywhere in the world: Breckenridge, Frisco, Dillon, Keystone, Silverthorne and Copper Mountain. Each town with it’s own special character-a place for everyone.
In the winter we have skiing at world renown resorts such as Arapahoe Basin, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain and Keystone. Each ski resort offers a variety of skiing experiences for every member of the family. Winter fun abounds and is the reason most locals bought Summit County real estate and moved here in the first place.
It is truly a winter wonderland and, yet, the summer is why people stay -sunny warm weather that rarely goes over 80 degrees. Combining the beautiful weather with unlimited summer activities make Summit County a unique year round playground. Summer provides epic mountain scenery with an abundance of music, theater, rafting, biking, fishing, hiking, boating and much more that draws visitors from around the world.
Originally Summit County was home to mostly miners, ranchers and a variety of other people that simply loved the mountains. One can still spot many old mining structures throughout the county as well as many (some still in operation) ranches.
One of the things that many notice is all the open space: mountains, forest, lakes, streams, valleys and fields. In fact, Summit County is mostly owned by the U.S. Forest Service. Thus, the reason for so much open space resulting in many thousands of acres of playground for all locals and visitors alike to enjoy.
Besides the forest, many enjoy the Dillon Reservoir and Green Mountain Reservoir as well as the rivers and streams that feed them such as The Blue River, Snake River and Ten Mile Creek. All of these combined provide a playground suitable for sailing, motor boating, rafting, kayaking and, of course, trout fishing.
Enjoy Summit County from its many hundreds of miles of hiking trails, biking trails and even golfing at any of the five challenging golf courses throughout Summit County.
Summit County has a plethora of wonderful and fun activities for individuals, families and groups. It is also home to tremendous services including health care, education, tourist amenities and our very own Summit Stage (a free source of county transportation).
